I'm so nervous right now, and I can't tell anyone why. Not for a whole 'nother month! It's a self-imposed silence, because I don't want anyone to make fun of me about this... so I'll wait until said making fun of would be moot. On to other news, Michael's name is on a statement by 8th Day that responds to, and critiques, the recent statement from the Vatican that calls homosexuality a disorder and seeks to remove homosexuals from the priesthood. Michael didn't write this statement-- a committee did-- but he and one of the nuns sent it out to all the bishops. Now, two of the Bishops have sent a letter to the Vatican expressing their belief that 8th Day, the sister, and Michael, are dangerous to the church, and that the two bishops stand ready to assist the vatican in "correcting" them. First, let me mention that MIchael has been Catholic for less than a year. It is not fair that he's already been called to the attention of the Vatican. I've been Catholic 25 years longer than him. Plus, I'm not naming names, but a friend of mine tells me that one of the bishops who sent this letter is, "the biggest queen". And my friend who says this is allowed to say things like that, for the record. It's nuts. We're a bit concerned. 8th Day expects to lose some sponsors. We joke that Michael's going to be excommunicated, which, you know, whatever. If that happens, the only thing that really changes is that I'll officially leave the church too. The real issues to us are how this is going to affect the Center, and how this is going to affect Michael's place with the Claretians. We worry about some of the religious at 8th day and if their orders will force them to leave. The Vatican's reach is long. It's easy to criticize them. It's harder when they notice. A bit scary, honestly. So we'll see.
